McGregor verdiende zoveel in slechts 13 seconden

Conor McGregor, ja die Ier die Jose Aldo in slechts 13 seconden versloeg, verdiende in deze fractie meer geld dan de gemiddelde Amerikaan verdient in zo’n 10 jaar. Forbes zocht uit welke deals McGregor had gesloten en hoeveel hij zelf van in zijn zak mocht steken:

McGregor’s contract gives him a cut of pay-per-view shares: a reported $3-$5 for each purchase. While we don’t know exactly how many buys UFC 194 will total — most outlets predict well over one million — it is a sure bet to at least reach UFC 189′s one-million mark. McGregor fought Chad Mendes, a last-minute replacement for Aldo, in the headliner for that event.

Going off the lowest figures in that equation, one million PPV buys with a $3 cut, McGregor would already be getting paid more than $230,000 per second. Add in his $580,000 combined fight and sponsor pay, and that number rises to over $275,000 per second ($3.5 million total). In case you’re curious, a more optimistic estimate for McGregor — say, a $5 PPV cut and 1.5 million PPV buys — would equate to nearly $622,000 per second ($8 million total).

Holly Holm vertelt over haar desastreuze ‘Kick’

Er was veel om te doen, de trap die Holly Holm in het gevecht met voormalig ‘Queen of the Ring’ Ronda Rousey uitdeelde. Het was de trap die Rousey in 1x vloerde. Met alle gevolgen van dien. Het internet ging los omdat de onverslaanbare Rousey eindelijk verslagen was terwijl ze daarvoor veel ‘trashtalk’ richting Holms adres had. In een interview met GQ Magazine vertelt ze over hoe ze zich voelde op het moment dat ze Rousey vloerde.

“There were a lot of thoughts going through my head in that split second before The Kick. I knew that I had dazed her a little bit with the straight left before, and then we got tied up there. I just wanted to get her off so I could keep striking. But it was a slow motion moment for me. There was a lot of time in my mind. When she went down, as she was getting back up, I knew that it was time to capitalize. A fighter can always recover and you never know what they’re going to come back with. So I just kept telling myself not to kick her too soon, don’t kick her while her hands are on the canvas.”

En dit vindt Mayweather van Rousey’s verloren gevecht

Vorige week zaterdag kreeg koningin van de ring Ronda Rousey een paar ferme tikken van haar sterke tegenstander Holly Holm. Binnen no-time ging Rousey de hele wereld over als loser én werd ze op ongeveer iedere site in de zeik genomen. Met name het feit dat ze vooraf opschepte dat ze onverslaanbaar was. Niet dus. Al eerder had ze woorden gewisseld met de mannelijke kampioen, Floyd Mayweather. En waar je zou verwachten dat Floyd haar zou uithonen meldde hij dit:

“I don’t think it’s cool how everyone is trolling her on social media. Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it’s nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don’t think is cool. I’ve never been on the other side, so I don’t know how it feels. I’m pretty sure she’s a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings,” Mayweather explained.

“Everything happens for a reason. This was already written. Listen, if God says, ‘In Floyd’s career, I don’t want him to lose,’ you know what? I wasn’t going to lose. That doesn’t mean that I haven’t took a loss before. I’m not talking about boxing; I’m just talking about life. When you lose a loved one, that’s taking a loss. I think that everything is just a learning experience. In due time, she’ll be able to bounce back and make some noise again in mixed martial arts.”

Gaat Christiano Ronaldo naar PSG?

In een interview met Mundial Magazine heeft Christiano Ronaldo uitgeweid over een eventuele overstap van Real Madrid naar Paris Saint Germain. Met de geruchtenmachine die steeds meer op gang komt dat Ronaldo denkt aan een overstap blijkt gegrond te zijn…en PSG is de enige club die de transfersom (€100 million EUR) en het salaris van de superster kan betalen.

On Football –
I don’t watch a lot of TV. I like big games, especially with my old teams and team-mates especially in Manchester United. But I’m not a huge fan of watching football on TV, I like to play. It’s too much, training football all morning, then I do this football all afternoon, I like to change the tape and go home and do other things. Go shopping, play pool not so much the same stuff.

On Family –
My family is of course the basis of my success, my mother and father sacrificed many things for me when I was a child and I learned a lot. To live alone in Lisbon at just 11/12 was very tough for me, but after that it made me more mentally strong and able to deal with everything on and off the pitch. They support me all the time.

On Fans –
Sometimes it’s difficult, at the end of the day it’s huge to make someone so happy. Sometimes hard, I remember I was a few years ago in hospital and some kids saw me in Lisbon and they couldn’t believe it. You actually saw the heart-beat monitors go up a lot, and I was like ‘ohhh! These people like you a lot’ and I appreciate these and it gives you motivation to make them and keep them happy.

On Lionel Messi –
If you see my last eight years, I’ve always been the same at the top level. And in history it’s hard tell me one player who’s been at the top level for eight years, right? It’s all about small details, if you win titles, Champions Leagues. In my head I’m the best. Maybe in your head it’s Messi, maybe in another head it’s Iniesta. I have to respect that, but in my mind I’m the best.

On Leaving Real Madrid –
Why not? Yes. At the moment I am happy at Real Madrid but the future nobody knows, you have to do what makes you happy. At this moment I am really happy at Real Madrid, but tomorrow is another day and I don’t know. PSG are a good team, why not? Manchester, why not? Sporting? Why not? Who knows what will happen in the future.

En hierom houden wij van oesters

We zitten al vuistdiep in de herfst én dat is te merken. De temperaturen stijgen voor het gevoel tot diep in de min, de avond valt al om 17:00 én we drinken chocolademelk met slagroom in plaats van zomerse Gin-Tonics. Wat is de herfst toch een naar seizoen. Gelukkig is er één pluspunt van deze koude maanden waar we wel aan kunnen wennen: oesters. Het is de beste tijd van het jaar om deze weekdiertjes naar binnen te slurpen in combinatie met een heerlijke wijn of port.
