David Brent is back on the office: ‘Life on the Road’

De eerste officiële trailer is vrijgegeven van David Brent: Life on the Road, het big-screen debuut van de geliefde serie ‘The Office’. Het verhaal is geschreven door Ricky Gervais en het leek hem een uitdaging om de film tegelijkertijd te regisseren én de hoofdrol te spelen. In het verhaal volgen we de zelf-benoemd, komische David Brent. Hieronder de synopsis van het verhaal:

“David Brent: Life on the Road sees the highly anticipated big screen debut of one of comedy’s best-loved characters, David Brent (Ricky Gervais). The film catches up with Brent twelve years on from the BBC mockumentary ‘The Office’ to find he is now a travelling salesman with Lavichem, a cleaning and ladies’ personal hygiene products company. However, he hasn’t given up on his dream of rock stardom and is about to embark on a self-financed UK tour with his band, ‘Foregone Conclusion’.

Assembling a group of session musicians who are just in it for the money, and talented rapper Dom (Ben Bailey Smith) in an attempt to gain street cred, Brent cashes in his pensions and takes unpaid leave in a bid to turn his dream into reality. Get ready to join David Brent on the road as he takes one last shot at fame and fortune.”

‘Rich Kids Of Instagram’ opgepakt voor fraude

De zogenaamde ‘Rich Kids Of Instagram’ genieten ervan om hun rijkdom te laten zien op Social Media. Complete douchebags die o.a. in champagne douchen, met kaviaar ontbijten en een jaarsalaris in 1 avond verkwisten. Jaloers? Mwoah.

Deze Rich Kids Of Instagram zijn echter niet allemaal even slim. Ze helpen namelijk de politie goed op weg in fraudezaken en belastingontduiking/wijking. Een artikel in The Guardian meldt het volgende:

“Oisín Fouere, managing director of K2 Intelligence in London, said social media was increasingly their “first port of call”. Their opponent in one asset recovery case claimed to have no significant valuables – until investigators found a social media post by one of his children that revealed they were on his $25m yacht in the Bahamas.

Daniel Hall, director of global judgment enforcement at Burford Capital, said their targets in such cases tended to be people “of a slightly older vintage” who were not prodigious users of Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, but whose children, employees and associates often were. The firm recently managed to seize a “newly acquired private jet” in a fraud case because one of the two fraudsters had a son in his 30s who posted a photograph on Instagram of himself and his father standing in front of the plane.

“That’s the kind of jackpot scenario one hopes for,” said Hall.”

Een ander medium heeft een soortgelijk verhaal. Deze kids zijn dus onwetende snitches:

Andrew Beckett, managing director of cybersecurity and investigations at Kroll, said the firm uncovered multimillion-pound hidden assets in a divorce case last year by monitoring the location of the children’s social media posts. The court ordered the husband to give his wife $30m, but he claimed not to have such assets.

“We monitored social media, particularly for his children, who were in their 20s, and found a lot of posts from the same geo-tagged sites,” said Beckett. “Cross-referencing that with land registry and other similar bodies overseas, we found half a dozen properties that were registered in the name of this person.

“We were able to go to the court with a list of assets that we conservatively estimated at $60m, which the court then seized until he settled the amount that had been ordered.”

Londen opent deuren The London Design Museum

The Design Museum in Londen heeft aangekondigd om de deuren te sluiten van de vestiging bij de Tower Bridge. In plaats daarvan verhuist The Londen Design Museum naar Kensington High Street, op 24 november van dit jaar. Waarom dit nieuws voor jou interessant is? Omdat je ongetwijfeld in de nabije toekomst nog wel naar Londen zal reizen (cheap en awesome) en het design museum is a must visit locatie. Oh ja, entree is natuurlijk gratis.

Het nieuwe museum is gevestigd in het voormalige Commonwealth Institute welke driemaal groter is dan de oude vestiging. Het nieuwe pand is ontworpen door architect John Pawson.

“If you forced me to pick the single most rewarding achievement in my long design career then I would not hesitate to say founding the Design Museum in London,” aldus Sir Terence Conran. “It was a hugely important moment for design in the UK at the time and for me personally. Since 1989 the museum has always led the way and been the first to show some of the work and inspirations of many of the most important designers and architects on the planet. Today, we are about to move from Shad Thames to new, bigger premises in Kensington, where all our dreams and ambitions to create the best and most important design museum in the world will become a step closer to reality. It will make my long lifetime in design absolutely worthwhile.”

De eerste tentoonstelling van het museum in de nieuwe vestiging is genoemd “Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World”, nogmaals: must visit gentlemen!

Vantablack is het nieuwste zwart

Vantablack wordt gezien als de darkste substantie die bekend is bij de mensheid. Vergeet de kleur van je zwarte overhemd, vergeet die zogenaamd zwarte sneakers: Vantablack it is! Kunstenaar Anish Kapoor heeft de exclusieve rechten verkregen van de zwarte substantie, maar schijnbaar ligt de concurrentie al op de loer. Surrey Nanosystems zou een nog zwartere versie hebben ontwikkeld.

De strijd om het donkerste zwart is aan! In de onderstaande video zie je verschillende soorten zwart. De ordinaire mat zwart (rechts), NASA’s zwart (midden) én Vantablack aan de linkerzijde.

Leonardo DiCaprio schrijft geschiedenis

Na enkele jaren er net naast gegrepen te hebben mocht de geliefde Leonardo DiCaprio gisteren eindelijk het podium opklauteren om de felbegeerde Oscar in handen te nemen. Het gouden beeldje tartte de blonde acteur al langer. Al vier keer eerder werd DiCaprio namelijk genomineerd, nimmer won hij hij de prestigieuze award. Tot gisterenavond.

Leo werd door de hele wereld toegejuicht en schreef eindelijk geschiedenis. En in plaats van dat hij in zijn toespraak vertelde hoe belangrijk deze prijs voor hem was besloot hij de klimaatverandering aan te kaarten. Respect for that Leo: “Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It’s the most urgent threat facing our entire species. We need to work together and stop procrastinating.”
